So what I love about science is the whittling down of vague common sense to a finer, harder point.
Like this "10 Things Every Woman Should Know About a Man's Brain" by Robin Nixon on LiveScience.
I'm getting more practice in not being smug as I read through Nixon's list. You know (I remind myself), no one likes being patted on the head patronizingly. And while there could be more research evidence included in the piece for veracity's sake, there are enough references to demonstrate our cultural tendency to really dig stereotypes.
We expect incredible (and ridiculous) things out of our fellow humans, particularly the ones we love. Women, especially, seemed determined to translate their innate beliefs in potential and in the power of character and will into what amounts to expecting miraculous superhuman transformations. The more we understand just how moved we our by our immutable biology, the better we'll all get along.
Just talkin' to myself here...
